Fo FREEEEEEE!

I found this website that will send you free products to try out. It's called influenster.com. All you have to do is fill out some surveys (obviously I have too much time on my hands lol). If you fit a certain products demographic, they will send it to you for free to try out. The first thing I ever got was back in June (I think!) and I got a box full of beauty goodies. Then last week I got a box of 3 full size dish soaps to try out. Very cool! So check 'em out y'all!!!

Breastfeeding 101

I thought I'd write about something that I am really passionate about and has really changed my life and that is breastfeeding. I wanted to share some of my tips and feelings on the subject, but by no means am I an expert.

First of all breastfeeding is a choice and a choice I believe should be made by the mother. If you don't want to breastfeed, that's your choice and don't let anyone make you feel like less of a mother because of your decisions. I think that goes with any parenting choices we make along the way.

Benefits of Breastfeeding (There's some good ones!):
-You save money! You won't be buying formula which is VERY expensive. I did however, have to give Mason some formula from time to time, but wasn't spending nearly as much as an only formula-fed baby would have.
-Of course it's the best choice for your child. Your milk is specially designed for your baby and can help reduce illness and allergies.
-Helps the Mommy lose weight. This is a definite benefit in my eyes! The average mom nursing a newborn baby burns 200-500 calories a day just from nursing! I was lucky and lost most of my baby weight in about 3 months (sadly didn't stay that way though lol).
-Bonding time with baby. It's a great time to just relax and be close to your baby. It's such a wonderful experience!

The list could probably go on and on.

Now, my Top 5 Tips for Breastfeeding

1. Stay hydrated. Breastfeeding can take a lot out of you. I mean, the baby is sucking liquid out of you so it seems right that you should be drinking a lot more water. I try to keep a bottle of water with me everywhere I go. Also, it's a great idea to continue your prenatal vitamins or an everyday vitamin.

2. Don't get discouraged. Breastfeeding can be hard. Not every mom is lucky enough to have a baby that right away latches on and can nurse with ease. There can be issues with your milk supply and with the baby wanting to nurse. Whether you nurse for a week, month, or a year be proud of the fast that you tried and DON'T FEEL LIKE A FAILURE! I know I had many issues at first and I felt like a horrible mom because I thought I would have to stop nursing. In hindsight, I wish I hadn't stressed so much.

3. Do your research. When I was pregnant I really didn't think much about breastfeeding. I figured if the baby wanted to we would. What would be so hard about breastfeeding? Looking back, I wish I had learned more about the whole process. I know my hospital offered courses about breastfeeding, but I just wasn't that interested. Now I would recommend them to any mom wanting to learn more. Once I had Mason I got a lot of help from thebump.com. They have community boards where all types of moms can answer your questions and help you out of almost anything. I found out a lot of their Breastfeeding Board.

4. Find support. When I started nursing I felt all alone in the process. My mom didn't nurse and none of my friends really did (Most of my friends are still babyless). I had not idea what I was doing! I did find support on thebump.com like I mentioned before and I began to just do a lot of research online. I found out about La Leche League. It's a great group for nursing mothers. They have lots of information and groups you can join that meet locally. Their website is lllusa.org. Also, if YOU need support I would be so honored and glad to help anyone out!

5. Do what you want to do. Like I said before it's YOUR choice! You do what fits you and your family's lifestyle. Yes, it is the most natural thing to do, but it doesn't always feel so natural to all moms.

Hope this was some help to anyone who needs it. Mason is 15 months and I am still nursing. I never imagined nursing this long! I only nurse him to sleep at night and sometimes before a nap. Weaning isn't as easy as I thought. Breastfeeding is definitely an on-going learning process. I learn something all the time!

Long Time No See

Ok so I know I haven't written on here in forever! My life has been crazy this summer! We got all settled in California then BAM! He gets deployed. Now to make a very long story short I am back in Charlotte staying with my family till he gets back. It's great to be home, but it still hasn't hit me that I am not just visiting. I am so excited to get to spend time with family and friends. But of course, I miss him like crazy! Luckily he gets to email me often. He's gotten to call me a few times, but not much. When he has called it has made my day the best ever. You don't realize how great it is to just hear their voice. I try to send him lots of videos of Mason and pictures as well.

Well that's it for now I suppose. I'm going to try to write more on here, but honestly, my life isn't that exciting right now (but I kinda like it that way).

Happy Birthday America!

So Josh is gone yet again....tear....

But that's ok! We had a fun 4th o' July! The base put on an amazing firework show. Mason was a little scared but I think he enjoyed them. We went with some awesome ladies and their cute little girls. So great to be making friends. Anyhow, here's some pics from last night. Oh and Mason is STILL asleep and it's 9 o'clock! idk what to do with myself!

Feeling Inspired

Hip Chick Monogram Wall Decal
Love monograms!

Since I'm currently pretty much stuck in my house these days I've been really inspired to decorate the house and make it reflect our personalities. Most of my ideas have come from the addicting site that is Pinterest. Below are some ideas I have found on there and are really wanting to make or purchase for my house. I'm really into DIY projects. When I get around to making some things, I'll be sure to post on here. Enjoy!

Sacrifices

"Hip Hip Hooray! The super readers saved the day!" Please, PLEASE get this out of my head. If you are not familiar with the exciting show Super Why, then you don't understand the awesome song that is stuck in my head. I hear it all day; when I'm in the shower, when I'm cooking, and even when I am trying to fall asleep. It is an acceptable sacrifice to have this lame stuff in my head because by golly Mason is obsessed. I could seriously play it all day and he would be happy (And I do have it on a lot!). That's one thing you learn real quick as a parent; the babies wants and needs come first. Always. To some this makes them not want to have babies yet, but once you hold that precious thing in your arms, you don't care to do whatever it takes to make that bundle of joy happy. And in return, that makes you happy (I think I am using commas a lot...oh well!). Just my little two cents for the day.  :)

It's Gonna Happen

So yea....I've gained a lot of weight...there I said it! With that being said, I am determined to change. I usually don't tell people when I am "dieting" because of the risk of feeling like a failure when I give up on it. But this time is different. I have been doing a lot of research on eating healthy. The old me would restrict my calories and basically starve myself, but no more of that! I'm going to take it easy and take my time. I am really focusing on limiting my sugar and making sure I eat things as natural as possible. This doesn't mean I'm not going to give in sometimes and eat a big juicy cheeseburger. Just not going to do that everyday like I use to. My goal is 30 pounds right now. Not really setting a deadline, but I have one in my head. I know I can do this and I am excited to get started. I have been doing really good the past 4 days. I know that's not very long, but from my dieting experience, it is for me! So here goes nothing!

Our Trip to Cali...continued

My intentions for this blog have not been going like I really wanted lol. I wanted to go into way more detail of our trip from Tennessee to Cali, but honestly this is how it went....

Drive, stop for gas, drive, stop for gas, drive, stay at mediocre hotel, repeat next day.

Now we did see some neat things along the way from the window of our truck and we did make a few stops.

One of the first stops we made was to the 45th Infantry Division Museum in Oklahoma. It was very interesting. They had tons of old tanks and airplanes from WWII and the Vietnam War. Inside the museum was more like a history of weaponry. They had guns from pretty much every war. The most interesting part was the items from Hitler's apartment. I've always had such an interest in Hitler and the Holocaust.

Some of Hitler's belongings

One of the next things we did was to drive down some of old Route 66. This was very tricky because most of the old highway is now I-40. The part we did get to go down was pretty interesting. We saw lots of desert, but did see some old gas stations and old towns. Wish we had stopped to explore, but time wasn't on our side that day. We stopped at a restaurant for lunch on the old highway and it was pretty good. It was called Johnnie's Grill.

The last real sight that we saw was amazing. It was (drum roll please...) the Grand Canyon! For someone like me who has never been out west this was so exciting. It is definitely something you have to see and no pictures do it justice. It's very beautiful, but the fear of falling loomed over me the whole time I was there. No falls thank god. Oh and I'm pretty sure we were the only Americans there lol. Everyone spoke a different language.

"It's the Circle of Liiiffee"
Beautiful
Yea, I don't know why I went out that far. I was scared the whole time!

When we finally made it to NAS Lemoore, I was pleasantly surprised. I picture tumbleweed galore and nothing but dust and desert. Well, all of that is here, but they really work hard to make the base look good. There's lots of trees and grass on the base. The base itself is surrounded by agriculture. Fields of plants and cows are everywhere.

What I have seen of Cali so far is very different than what I am used to, but it's nice to have a change. I look forward to exploring more of this state.

Time Flies....

My squishy little man is 11 months old today. I can't believe in a month he'll be one! He's a stubborn little fella. Knows what he wants and won't stop till he gets it (or just throws a fit which consists of loud screaching and flailing around on the ground). Ahh but overall, he's one funny and smart little booger.

Mason's Favorites:
-Spoons; loves him some spoons. He'll carry them around anywhere.
-Remotes; gotta hide these suckers.
-Saying "Uh-Oh" and he says it in the right context.
-Walking around and around the coffee table; holding on of course

I see more and more talking and real walking in his near future. I don't know if I am ready!

Lots on my mind

My intentions are to have posts on our thrilling trip across the country (being sarcastic here) but with no computer or internet I can't post the way I want so...just feel like posting what's currently on my mind.

I'm sitting in my new wonderful, very empty house. I have mason playing on the floor while I sit on our oh-so comfortable (sarcasm again) air mattress and watch movies on Josh's computer. Our furniture and stuff won't be here till Friday so I am bored out of my mind.

So here's my super whiny part...I want to make friends. I see all these Navy Wives walking around with their kids. I feel like such a dork, but I really don't know how to make friends. I cant see myself walking up to some woman and being like "Oh hey, wanna be my friend?" Yeah, that's not happening. I still have a lot of adjusting to this kind of life, but I am excited about it all.

I can't wait to decorate my house and make it our home

The Long Trip to California Part 1

The day the movers came to get all our stuff was hectic to say the least. They were like a tornado whizzing around packing everything up and neatly putting it in their huge moving truck. It was so weird to see our house all empty and brought back memories about how excited we were to move in. Now we were so ready to get out!

Well, the babe is crying...more to come!

Goodbye Stuff!

Slow Down!

Now I am pretty sure every mom says this about their child, but I have the cutest baby in the world! Seriously. Mason is growing up so fast! Still not crawling, but he scoots everywhere! He's good with standing and holding onto stuff and I am sure it will be any day when he starts to walk. His favorite thing right now is saying "Uh Oh" whenever something falls. It's the cutest darn thing ever! His communication skills are getting better by the day. It feels like I was just holding him in my arms and rocking him; now he wants out of my hold so he can roam around. He's my big boy!

Yay a Computer!

Now that Josh is home I have a computer to use. Yay!!! So back to blogging I go...

It was a VERY long drive to pick him up in Florida, but so worth it! I was only in Pensacola for one night and we drove back to Knoxville the next day. I got to meet some of his friends that are going to be in Lemoore with us and I really liked them. It's good to know he has a good group of friends.

Packing and preparing is all we have been doing since he's been home. I think it's finally hitting us that we are leaving soon. That means more goodbyes. Sigh....trying to be positive and looking forward to what lies ahead. The moving people are coming on Monday to pack up everything and then we leave Tuesday. Our goal is to make it to Little Rock, Arkansas our first day. We'll see how that goes. I've been trying to find some neat sights to see on our way, but not having much luck. I know for sure we are going to see the Grand Canyon and Josh wants to make a trip to Lake Havasu.

This trip is definitely going to be an interesting one with us, a baby, and a dog.
